How many Travon Martins? The verdict is in...six women decided that George Zimmerman was not guilty of murder in the death of Travon Martin. Most of the people who have followed the case would disagree but the prosecution wasn't able to get the jury to buy into the charge of second degree murder and they also didn't go with the manslaughter charge.
There is no doubt that Zimmerman killed Martin. There's no doubt that Zimmerman stalked Martin and provoked a confrontation. There is no doubt that Marin felt threatened. How many times did Zimmerman go out at night with a gun looking for trouble? Martin wasn't looking for trouble but his path happened to cross Zimmerman's and the rest is pretty tragic.
George needed something better to do with his time...he needed a sport or a hobby. How many 28 year old guys do you know who prowl around in the dark with a gun? George wanted to be a police officer but wasn't able to qualify. Instead, he joined the local neighborhood watch and started patrolling on his own. His record of emergency 911 calls go back six years....he made over 40 calls since he was around 22 years old. His recent focus was on young black men. This is not typical behavior for a young guy...I think we have a pattern. On the other hand, Travon was a 17 year old high school student doing pretty much what you would expect him to do....oh, yes, he was black.
Zimmerman's acquittal means that it is OK to prowl the street looking for people that you decide are up to no good and inflict your own brand of vigilante justice on them. You get to be the police, the judge and the jury. Well, in Florida, anyway.
